One of the best restaurants in Saint Petersburg is situated in the historical part of the city. Such world famous landmarks as the Bronze Horseman, St Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty and the Neva embankment are just very close to it. The restaurant occupies the basement of the building that played an important role in Russian history, while it is the building where the meetings of Senate and Synod took place.
The first guests were welcomed at the restaurant in 1993 when all the wide-scaled restoration work had been completed. Before restoration the unique building had been in a terrible condition, the basement was one meter deep in water. After meticulous restoration works a large dining area, bar and kitchen appeared. Before the revolution of 1917 in the basement of Synod building there was the Imperial Archives. The only reminders of this fact are catalogue boxes that became the part of the restaurant design.

The restaurant features two dining halls - big and small. The first one will be a perfect setting for a dinner with business partners. The second one, chamber like, is an ideal place for a more intimate meeting.
The menu combines classical European and traditional Russian dishes, some of which are cooked right on your table. The specialties are sterlet garnished with crayfish, beef-turnedo, halibut-grill and others. The extensive carte allows you to choose the right wine to accompany your dinner. The majorities of wines are French, but there are also Spanish and Portuguese. The connoisseurs are sure to highly appreciate the special collection of French wine, where one can find the best Bordeaux and Burgundy wines.
The guests are invited to visit wonderful bar, where the professional barmen will demonstrate their mastery. Great number of beer sorts from the best Russian and European brewery, wide selection of aperitifs and cocktails, impressive collection of strong alcohol drinks can satisfy the most demanding guests.
Every evening from 20:00 to 22:00 the guests can enjoy live classic music, jazz and improvisation on folk music, performed by the best musicians of Saint Petersburg.
One more important point to be mentioned is that the restaurant was honored to cater American ex-president Bill Clinton, who visited Senat Bar in April, 1996 and highly appreciated the art of the chef.
